A scholarship to introduce high school students to the world of aviation. Learn what it takes to operate a commercial aircraft and the requirements to become a commercial pilot.
The Honourable Company of Air Pilots, Flight Experience and Pinstripe Solutions are pleased to announce a joint initiative to offer our Aspiring Pilots scholarship program. The program is open to all high school students considering commercial aviation as a possible career.
The aviation industry is experiencing extraordinary growth and according to Boeing and Airbus, over 600,000 pilots are required in the next 20 years. This is more airline pilots than have been trained since the dawn of air travel!
The Aspiring Pilots program is designed to introduce young adults to the exciting world of aviation and to help inspire the next generation of commercial pilots. This scholarship is valued at around $2000* and covers ground school briefings, guided Boeing 737 simulator sessions and interview and industry preparedness coaching. Ability to attend the sessions at one of these locations is the responsibility of the applicant. During the application process, you will be required to select a preferred location for where your sessions will be held.
Flight Experience is in a unique position to offer high school students a real look into the life of a commercial airline pilot. Nowhere else can you easily access and operate a genuine training simulator and talk to real commercial pilots. Flight Experience is not a flight school, this means we provide unbiased information and knowledge about the best paths into the industry.
We are offering two different programs, for different age groups:
1) Early Starters - This program is geared towards those in year 9 and 10 and aims to inspire and encourage a career in aviation from an earlier stage. If you are in year 9 or 10 and think you might like to be a pilot one day, then sign up! we'll show you what it's all about and provide guidance and recommendations for getting through high school with the best subjects and achievements. Then, as you enter year 11 and 12, you can apply for our 'Career Starters' program. Early Starters scholarship award valued at over $1000.
2) Career Starters - This award will be given to the most deserving candidate from either year 11 or 12. With this course, we are looking to help those ready to take their first steps towards an aviation career and help guide them into the right-hand seat of a commercial jet. Career Starters scholarship award valued at over $2000.
Eligible candidates and requirements:
Open to any year 9 & 10 students.
Candidates will be required to:
1. Complete the Aspiring Pilots Application Form
2. Submit a 500-word essay
3. Provide a resume and latest school marks or report.
4. If shortlisted, book and attend an interview at nearest Flight Experience. During this interview, you will have a short assessment flight in our Boeing 737 flight simulator
Scholarship inclusions:
1) One x 30 minute ‘Ground School’ briefing* with a commercial pilot covering: Basic flight controls & their effects, basic forces that act on an aircraft and a discussion around ideal subjects and extra-curricular activities during your last few school years
2) Two X 30 minute flight-deck orientation lessons in a CASA Approved Boeing 737 flight simulator with a commercially qualified Flight Experience instructor. Put what you have learned to the test in a real Boeing 737 flight simulator
3) Pinstripe Solutions' Aspiring Pilots Workbook
Program Outcomes:
Learn what it would be like to operate a commercial jet, and gain an understanding of the steps involved in becoming a pilot. Know what you need to work on and what subjects to take in your remaining school years to give you a head start.
Eligible candidates and requirements:
Open to any year 11 & 12 students.
Candidates will be required to:
1. Complete the Aspiring Pilots Application Form
2. Submit a 750 word essay on a given aviation topic
3. Provide a resume and latest school marks or report
4. If shortlisted, book and attend an interview at the nearest Flight Experience. During this interview, you will have a short assessment flight in our Boeing 737 flight simulator.
Scholarship inclusions:
1) Two x 60 minute ‘Ground School’ briefings with a commercial pilot covering: Introduction to a jet aircraft, effects of controls, aircraft systems, aerodynamic forces and a discussion around flight schools, universities and the different paths to becoming a commercial pilot.
2) Two X 60 minute flight-deck orientation lessons in a CASA Approved Boeing 737 flight simulator with a commercially qualified, Flight Experience instructor. Learn to take-off, land and manoeuvre a commercial jet.

4) Pinstripe Solutions' Essential Coaching session (60 Mins)
Program Outcomes:
To develop an understanding of what it means to be a commercial pilot, and the training and flying of a commercial aircraft. Learn valuable skills you'll use whether you choose a career in the aviation industry or not. Connect with real pilots and gain a contact for future questions.
